Playtime is the joy of the inner child

Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

I believe having playtime is so important for our mental wellbeing. It is the perfect way to release stress and any weight of the responsible adult that we have to be every single day. So many people believe it is silly and childish to be playful and carefree but it is quite the opposite: it is freeing and it is so wholesome to do something that makes us feel joyous.

I draw / paint all kinds of images from fairies to angels as a way to connect to the magical world that exists inside of me. Drawing has been a passion of mine since I was 3 years old and I was able to hold a pencil. This is such a nurturing connection as it reminds me that there is more to the world than what we just see with our eyes. Luckily I have never forgotten about this magical connection and I have brought it out into the world to share with others. Besides this I love to dance, even if it is in my living room in my pj’s with my glasses wearing Christmas socks. I might even sing off key to make it extra special!

Lately I have been playing Nintendo with my boy and he’s been kicking my butt at Mario but I still enjoy it as it brings me to the moment and helps me to clear my mind from everything else. There is a competitive side to my inner child and it’s good to let that out in this way. But also playing board games with him and my friends makes me laugh which is the best medicine to lift the spirit.

I believe taking time off from being a parent / colleague / sister / brother / caretaker and letting the inner child play their heart out is so healing for our soul. We all need to do things that make us happy and oftentimes these are such simple things that are easy to do. We just have to take the time to do it and understand the true value of it.

Playtime is an important part of self-care and I wish for everyone to feel the joy and freedom in themselves by connecting with their inner child.
